Live Studio

In this article, you will find the essential information you need for understanding the live studio in Rapid.
In this article, you will find the presentation of details on how to manage and edit broadcast content in near real-time for your stations in Rapid.

Overview | Stations

In your Rapid, on “HOME | Overview”, select a station of interest from among your stations.

Station Dashboard

After selecting a station of interest, recognize and review the Station Dashboard for your chosen Station.

In the navigation menu, in the STATION group, select Live Studio.

Layout of the Studio

For your station of interest, in the layout of the Studio, consider the three columns: Playout, Schedule, and Outputs.

Schedule and Outputs showcase an “eye symbol”: select the “eye” to toggle the column from hiding to showing. (Hiding columns is useful for users with lower resolution screens.)

Playout showcases these controls/buttons that you will use during the operations in the Studio:

  • Toggle button | Live Mode
  • Blue button | (+ Add playout item), select this button to add an item to the playout immediately
  • Lozenge | (+ Add to playout queue)

Playout

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Playout.

Before you can edit the Playout, make sure that Live Mode is enabled (toggle button is blue).

Adding a Playout Item

With Live Mode enabled, select the button named (+ Add playout item).
After selecting the button named (+ Add playout item), consider the dialog named Add Playout Item.

In the dialog named Add Playout Item

  • Select the type of item

    • Music
    • Speech Segment / Interview
  • Title: Key in the title

  • Artist: Key in the name of the artist

  • Album: Key in the name of the album

  • Upload an image for the item

  • Duration: Set the time for the item

Select Save

On your return to the Studio, your added item will be evident in the playout immediately

For the current item in the playout, you can change the item using the given controls/buttons:

  • Eject: select this lozenge to clear the current item from the playout
  • Replace playout item: select this lozenge to change the current item in the playout

Adding to the Playout Queue

With Live Mode enabled, select the button named (+ Add to playout queue).

After selecting the button named (+ Add to playout queue), consider the dialog named Add Playout Item.

In the dialog named Add Playout Item

  • Select the type of item

    • Music
    • Speech Segment / Interview
  • Title: Key in the title

  • Artist: Key in the name of the artist

  • Album: Key in the name of the album

  • Upload an image for the item

  • Set the start time

  • Set the duration

  • Lock start time

    • If this is set, then the start time for the item of interest will be fixed
    • In order to change the start time for the item of interest, the user will need to edit the time in the dialog named Edit Content Item
  • Auto Play

    • If the Auto Play flag is set, then when the item is loaded into the Playout Queue at the start of the episode it will automatically be played out when its Start Time is reached
    • If the Auto Play flag is not set, then a user will need to manually start the item from the Live Studio page

Updating Sources in Real-Time

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Playout where you can update playout sources in real-time.

You can add an item to go out immediately by selecting the blue button named Replace playout item.
You can stop the playback of the currently playing item by selecting the button named Eject.
In Live Mode, playout sources can be updated in real-time.

Play Next Item

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Playout where you can update playout sources in real-time with the next item.

When there are items in the queue but there is nothing currently playing in the Playout, look for the button named Play next item.
If you select the Play next item button, then Rapid will play the first item in the queue.
In Live Mode, playout sources can be updated in real-time.

Changing the Playout Queue

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Playout and the user interface that provides controls for you to change the playout queue.

Replace playout item: select this blue button to change the now playing event/item in the playout queue.
Eject: select this button to stop and remove the now playing event/item in the playout queue.
Play Now: select this button to move/play this event/item immediately to the top of the playout queue.
(+ Add to playout queue): select this blue button to add an event/item to the playout queue.

Schedule

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Schedule.

Schedule displays the current episode along with up to two upcoming episodes.
Schedule allows the user to edit details for the episodes.

Outputs

In the layout of the Studio, consider the Outputs.

Outputs will display the current content and status for Outputs that use messages as their source of content.
Outputs are displayed in the Live Studio so that users can see any changes they make to the playout in real time.
