Running Orders
In this article, you will find the essential information you need for understanding the running orders in Rapid.
In this article, you will find the presentation of details on how to add, edit, and remove event-level content in the episodes and shows as you build program schedules for your stations in Rapid.
NOTE
Before reading this article for Running Orders, read the article for Schedules.
HOME | Overview | Your Stations in Rapid
In your Rapid, on “HOME | Overview”, consider a station of interest from among your stations.
Station Dashboard
Select a station of interest: recognize and review the Station Dashboard for your chosen station.
In the navigation menu, in the STATION group, select Schedule: or, in the conveyor, select the card for Schedule.
Add Episode in the Schedule
In the schedule, select the tab named Week View: Week View presents a grid to help visualize the programme schedule for the chosen station.
From the grid, add an episode for a show in the Schedule by selecting the Add Episode button.

After selecting the Add Episode button, consider the dialog named Add Episode.
In the Add Episode dialog, select a show (or add a new show) for the Schedule.

After selecting (or adding) a show for the Schedule, consider the dialog named Add Broadcast Time.
In the Add Broadcast Time dialog, choose the settings for your episodes and then select Save.
Recurring Running Order
- Select the Edit button to access the dialog for Recurring Running Order
Episodes in the Schedule
After saving the settings (Broadcast Time details) for your episodes, consider the new episodes in the Schedule.
Prepare to edit an episode of interest: you will be editing the running orders for the chosen episode.
Editing Running Orders
From the grid, double-click the episode of interest and consider the dialog named Edit Episode.
What are Running Orders?
- Running Orders allow a user to add one or more events to an episode
- These events could be music tracks, speech segments or interviews
- When an episode’s start time is reached, the Running Order is loaded into the Playout system’s queues and the items can be played out either automatically (if Auto Play is set) or manually via the Live Studio page
- Once an episode start time is close or the episode is live, the Running Order cannot be modified
- Any changes need to be made via the Live Studio page
For the episode of interest, in the field named Running Order, select the Edit button.

After selecting the Edit button, consider the dialog named Running Order.
Button | Auto Play Running Order
- Slide the button to enable automation (blue)
- Items that have their “Auto Play” flag set to ‘on’ will automatically play when their start time is reached
- You will find an item’s “Auto Play” flag as a checkbox in the dialog named Add Running Order Item
- Slide the button to disable automation (grey)
- None of the items will automatically play when their start time is reached, even if their “Auto Play” flag is set
- Items will need to be manually played via the Live Studio page
Button | Edit Recurring Items
- Select the button to access the dialog for Recurring Running Order
To add items to your running order, select the button named (+ Running Order Item).

After selecting the button named (+ Running Order item), consider the dialog named Add Running Order Item.
Select the type of item
- Music
- Speech Segment / Interview
Key in the details
- Title: Key in the title
- Artist: Key in the name of the artist
- Album: Key in the name of the album
- Upload an image for the item
- Start Time: Set the start time
- Duration: Set the duration
- Option: Lock start time
- If this is set, then the start time for the item of interest will be fixed
- In order to change the start time for the item of interest, the user will need to edit the time in the dialog named Edit Running Order Item
- Option: Auto Play
- If the Auto Play flag is set, then when the item is loaded into the Playout Queue at the start of the episode it will automatically be played out when its Start Time is reached
- If the Auto Play flag is not set, then a user will need to manually start the item from the Live Studio page
After setting the details for your first running order item, select OK and then continue adding running order items to your Running Order.

Button | Edit Recurring Items
- Select the button to access the dialog for Recurring Running Order
After adding running order items to your Running Order, you can make changes before saving your sequence.
- Change your sequence by selecting and dragging an item to move it up or down in the list
- Change your sequence by selecting the vertical ellipsis to access the overflow menu
- Insert above
- Insert below
- Edit
- Lock Start Time
- Delete
Select Save.
Your Episode in the Schedule
After saving your Running Order, return to the Schedule and look for the episode of interest that has your new Running Order.
In the lower left corner of the episode block, look for the icon that gives you access to your Running Order.
Select the icon to make changes.
If the episode of interest only spans one hour, then the icon for accessing and changing the Running Order will be located next to the icon for the Episode Menu.
Access your Running Order
After changing your Running Order, return to the Schedule and look for the episode of interest.
In the upper right corner of the episode block, look for and select the overflow menu icon.
Select the “Edit Running Order” option to make more changes.
So, in the schedule, with either icon: you can access the running order for an episode of interest.
